Pre-conference programme

INEBRIA 2025 Pre-Conference Workshop

INEBRIA 2025 is pleased to offer an exciting pre-conference workshop focused on the rapidly evolving sphere of digital interventions. The day-long workshop will include a hands-on training in the morning on a platform which allows for developing digital interventions without specialized coding expertise, and an afternoon session featuring a stimulating discussion of digital intervention research and implementation led by INEBRIA e-SIG members.

Please join us for what promises to be a fun and thought-provoking day. Registration for the pre-conference workshop includes lunch. Virtual participation is possible.

CIAS 3.0: Digital interventions without coding

Dr. Steve Ondersma (Michigan State University Charles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health), Dr. Jordan Braciszewski (Henry Ford Health Center for Health Policy & Health Services Research), Dr. Amy Loree (Henry Ford Health Center for Health Policy & Health Services Research)

The Computerized Intervention Authoring System (CIAS; www.cias.app) is an NIH-funded, open-source, non-commercial platform that enables researchers to easily develop, edit, and share sophisticated interactive content without coding of any kind. Interventions built with CIAS deploy as cross-platform compatible web/mobile web apps of any duration, with easy personalization, integrated one- and two-way tailored SMS, optional animated narrators who speak aloud in over 40 languages, and instant translation. Researchers can either use the hosted platform at Michigan State University to build and deploy their interventions (without worrying about the technicalities of platform maintenance) or deploy the platform on their own server. A GDPR-compliant instance of CIAS—which will be available to researchers throughout the EU—is also in process at University Medical Center Göttingen, Germany.

The session will include:

  1. Highlighting the advantages of mobile web apps and no-code Software as a Service (SaaS) platforms.
  2. Introducing attendees to CIAS 3.0, highlighting key features and capabilities, followed by independent practice while the presenters circulate and provide guidance.
  3. Consolidating learning from the prior section by helping attendees develop a simple app.
  4. Sharing presenter experiences in disseminating and implementing CIAS-developed applications in healthcare settings.

e-SIG Discussion on Digital Intervention Research and Implementation

Dr. Marcus Bendtsen (Department of Health Medicine and Caring Sciences, Linköping University), Dr. Antoni Gual (Hospital Clinic de Barcelona), Dr. Michael P. Schaub (Swiss Research Institute for Public Health and Addiction ISGF)

Brief alcohol interventions are increasingly being delivered via digital means, including websites, text messages, smartphone apps, etc. Research on digital brief alcohol interventions has increased significantly in the past 15 years, with new technological and societal developments changing the conditions for intervention design and implementation. While digital delivery of interventions has benefits, there are also challenges in designing, evaluating, and implementing digital interventions.

The Digital approaches screening and brief intervention for alcohol and substance misuse special interest group (e-SIG) is inviting all INEBRIA attendees to join this meeting to discuss and share their experiences of digital intervention research and implementation. The meeting has no formal agenda; rather, we are inviting attendees to come with their questions and share their experiences so that we can all learn from each other.
